平素よりお世話になっております、若手会世話人代表の岩下智貴と申します。
この度、微生物生態学会広島大会の初日(10/28 月曜日)に、若手会を開催することになりました。
若手会は、主に院生や若手ポスドク・教員によって運営されている微生物生態学会の部会の1つで、その名の通り、会員の中の「若手」の交流を目的に学会大会時に企画をおこなっています。
まだ微生態での知り合いが少ない方でも、この若手会を通じ様々な所属・学年の若手会員と交流することができます。
前回の浜松大会では、学部生からポスドク、助教を含む約100名が若手会に参加しており、研究活動のお悩み相談や微生態に関するクイズを通じて、相互交流やモチベーションの向上に繋がったと考えています。
本大会の若手会では、昨年度から得たフィードバックを基に、参加者同士の交流をさらに促進しつつ、研究活動に関する議論を活発におこなえるようなコンテンツを企画しています。
具体的には自己紹介と研究紹介を合体させた交流形式のグループワークです。
自己紹介と研究紹介に関するスライドをそれぞれ1枚ずつ作成してもらい、数人程度のグループ内でショートプレゼンテーションをおこなってもらいます。
それに対して、聞いている側からも質疑応答をしてもらうのですが、自己紹介・研究紹介どちらに対してでもOKです。
少しハードルが高く聞こえてしまう方がいるかもしれませんが、こちらの方で希望者には発表スライドの雛形も用意するので気軽に参加して下さい。
発表セッションは二部構成で異なる研究分野同士、そして近い研究分野同士でのグループワークも検討しており、より深い研究交流ができると考えています。
それに加えて、早めに会場に到着した人向けのアクティビティーや若手会終了後の懇親会も実施予定です。

I am pleased to inform you that we will be holding a Young Researchers’ Meeting on the first day of the Microbial Ecology Conference in Hiroshima, on Monday, October 28th.
The Young Researchers’ Meeting is a subcommittee of the Microbial Ecology Society, mainly organized by graduate students, early-career postdocs, and young faculty members. As the name suggests, its purpose is to facilitate networking among the younger members of the society during the annual conference. Even if you are relatively new to the field and have not yet made many contacts, this meeting offers an excellent opportunity to connect with young researchers from different institutions and stages of their careers.
At the previous conference in Hamamatsu, around 100 participants ranging from undergraduate students to postdocs and assistant professors joined the event. Through activities such as discussing research challenges and participating in quizzes related to microbial ecology, attendees were able to foster mutual connections and increase their motivation for research.
For this year’s Young Researchers’ Meeting, we have designed a program based on the feedback received from last year’s event. We aim to further encourage networking and foster more in-depth discussions on research activities. Specifically, we are organizing a group-based workshop that combines self-introductions with research presentations. Each participant will be asked to prepare two slides: one for self-introduction and one for a research overview. These will be presented in small groups, followed by a Q&A session where questions can be asked about either the personal or research-related topics. While it may sound a bit intimidating to some, we will provide a template for the presentation slides for those who would like assistance, so please feel free to participate!
The presentation session will be divided into two parts: one where participants from different research fields can interact, and another where participants from similar fields can engage in more detailed discussions. We believe this will lead to deeper research exchanges.
In addition, we are planning an ice-breaking activity for those who arrive early and a social gathering after the meeting. We hope you are looking forward to it!

- Venue: Around Hiroshima Station
